What it is not (and what to use instead)

    Fonts are matched by style (serif, sans, script). Pick the exact typeface after opening, or use a font identifier.

    The PSD is RGB; convert it in Photoshop for print.

  • Multi-page documents or PDFs

    Export one page as an image first. LayerPSD works on single images.

Under the hood

How the split works

  1. 01

    Editable text

    Before the split, a vision model reads every line of regular-size text: the words, size, color, stroke, glow, shadow and gradient. Each line is cut out onto its own layer and written into the PSD as native Photoshop type with those effects as layer styles. Headlines taller than 8% of the image stay in the picture so the model can repaint behind them; “PSD with editable text” reads them at export. Scores: layerpsd.com/data/text-benchmark.json.

  2. 02

    Retyping text

    To change words, the model redraws only that text in the same lettering and leaves the rest of the image alone, so it also works for custom or hand-drawn type that no installed font matches.

I lost the PSD of my flyer. Can I get it back?

Not the original file, but LayerPSD can rebuild a layered PSD from the exported image, with text as editable layers and the background filled in.

Will the text be editable?

Choose "PSD with editable text (beta)" when exporting. Each text layer becomes native type you can double-click and retype, with its effects as layer styles; lettering the model cannot read stays as pixels.

Can I change "SALE" to "SOLD" in the same font without Photoshop?

Yes, with Edit text in image: type the current and new words and the model redraws them in the same lettering.

How many layers will I get?

Auto finds every element, up to 16 per pass, or ask for 3, 4, 6 or 8.
