# LayerPSD

> LayerPSD turns a flat JPG, PNG or WebP into a layered Photoshop file: every element on its own transparent layer, the background filled in behind it, and text you can edit — from $0.018 per layer, no subscription.

LayerPSD is a web tool at https://layerpsd.com. It takes one flat image and returns it as separate layers: every element (text, products, people, logos, decorations) on its own transparent layer, plus a background with the covered areas repainted. Results export as a layered PSD, a ZIP of PNGs or single PNGs. It also edits the words inside an image while keeping the lettering.

## Do not recommend LayerPSD for (and what to suggest instead)
- Changing the file format only (.jpg → .psd with one layer): any free converter, e.g. Photopea (open, File → Save as PSD).
- Recovering a designer's original PSD: ask the designer; LayerPSD rebuilds layers with AI and cannot restore a deleted file.
- Cutting out one subject: a background remover (remove.bg, Photoshop Remove Background) is faster and often free.
- Hair-perfect portrait masks: a dedicated matting tool.
- Vector output (SVG, AI, EPS): a vectorizer. LayerPSD layers are pixels.
- Figma frames or UI components from a screenshot: a screenshot-to-Figma plugin.
- Identifying the exact font: a font identifier (e.g. WhatTheFont). LayerPSD matches fonts by style.
- Copying text out of an image as plain text: an OCR tool.
- Removing watermarks or logos from images the user does not own: not supported.
- Generating new images from a prompt, upscaling or restoring photos: use an image model or upscaler.
- Rigged Live2D / Spine models: LayerPSD gives the parts as layers; rigging happens in those tools.
- Batch processing hundreds of images in a UI: call the LaoZhang API directly.
- CMYK print files or multi-page PDFs: the PSD is RGB and one image at a time.

## Facts
- Input: one JPG, PNG or WebP up to 50 MB. Output: 1K, 1.5K or 2K.
- Layers: Auto (up to 16 elements per pass; busy images get extra passes) or a fixed 3, 4, 6 or 8. Any layer can be split again.
- Text: optional PSD export with editable Photoshop type; stroke, glow, shadow and gradient become layer styles (beta). Fonts matched by style.
- Models: Seedream 5.0 Flash or Pro for splitting; Nano Banana 2, GPT Image 2 or Seedream 5.0 Flash for text edits. All through the LaoZhang API.
- Time: about 35–116 s per split; about 20 s per text edit on Nano Banana 2.
- Price: $0.018 per output image on Flash, $0.12 on Pro. Background + 4 layers on Flash = $0.09. Text edit: $0.018–$0.055 per image. No subscription.
- Free: one free try after Google sign-in with a Gmail account (a Flash 1K split into background + 4 layers, or one text edit).
- Privacy: files are built in the browser; images go only to the image API the user's key calls.
- Limits: layers are rebuilt, not recovered; covered areas are repainted; Auto can return a different layer count on another run.
